Family Halo Ring

Here's a different twist on the popular halo setting. This client had an oval solitaire engagement ring. Her idea was to add her children and grandchildren's stones around her center; almost forming a 'family circle' around her diamond. Luckily the halo had just the right amount of settings so each person had 2 stones. The halo was added to her existing ring and her center diamond reset.

Opal: October's Colorful Birthstone

Opal, October's birthstone, is known for its breathtaking "play of color." This "play of color" is created by minuscule silicone spheres which bend the light passing through the gem. Each stone displays an array of different colors including stunning reds, greens, and blues. Its beauty is enhanced when set against darker minerals such as ironstone, basalt, or obsidian. The word opal comes from the Sanskrit word "upala" and the Latin word "opalus," meaning "precious stone."

Sapphire: September's Dazzling Blue Birthstone

Sapphire is September's birthstone. Before becoming a birthstone, sapphire jewelry was worn for other reasons. Although sapphires occur naturally in a range of colors, the most common is sky-blue. Because of this, sapphire jewelry was also worn because of the gem's believed connection to the gods.

The garnet is a gemstone said to signify eternal trust and friendship. The word from which our modern day "garnet" is derived is the Latin granatum, which references a pomegranate seed.

Tanzanite - December's Newest Birthstone

Tanzanite, one of December's recognized birthstone, is noted for its trichoism: when a gem exemplifies three unique colors when observed at three different angles. This stunning birthstone displays deep royal blues, rich purples, and strong burgundies.
Tanzanite was first discovered in 1967 in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, in the East African country of Tanzania. It occurs in nature as reddish brown and will be heated to bring out tanzanite's signature trichoism. In 2002, it was named one of December's blue birthstones by the American Gem Trade Association.

Our Love Affair With Amethyst

Leonardo da Vinci was a great artist and scientist. We say this here because we totally agree with his assessment that amethyst is able to dissipate evil thoughts and quicken the intelligence. After all, wouldn’t anyone look smart wearing our beautiful Sterling Silver Amethyst Pendant? We think so! And who could look at our beautiful Sara Blaine Amethyst Ring and think any evil thoughts? With its gorgeous deep purple stone and royal setting, it just may make whoever wears it feel like a benevolent queen.

A Grandmother’s Surprise

A father and adult daughter came in to create a grandmother’s pendant for their special wife/mom. Our goal was finding a mounting that would take eleven stones in a balanced design; one that looks like it was always meant to be designed that way. With a little creativity, we found a mounting that took five stones and added the additional 6 stones to complete this grandmother’s pendant. They left the placement of the stones to us and luckily the balance of colors was perfect. What a wonderful family surprise.
